Your Access Society Directors for 2012
John Brodie
I'm your basic Squamish rock climber (except not so skilled), having started over 25 years ago - back in the era when falling off was bad. As a CASBC Director, I am interested in the evolution of climbing policy and access in heavily used and public areas (parks). In between climbing activities, I occupy my time as geotechnical engineer.
Doug Brown
Old enough to feel superior to people who climb better than me, young enough to have never worn Lycra and to have avoided getting my picture taken with rock shoes and socks. I am a Nelson-based climber who has been climbing for over 20 years, and enjoy all climbing except off-widths, chimneys (which are just really really big off-widths), and ice. My Christmas wish is to move Red Rocks to Canada.
Vice President - Jeremy Frimer
I've been climbing for 13 years. My favorite climbing that I've encountered so far is found in Squamish and Indian Creek. After over a dozen expeditions to places like Peru, Pakistan, India, the St. Elias, Alaska, and Patagonia, I'm finally starting to slow down... a little. Currently, I am doing a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology at UBC.
Rich Martin
Learned to climb in 98 while attending SFU. Almost flunked out because spent too much time up in Squamish. Served as the president of the SFU Outdoors club for a year, then moved to New Zealand. Not much climbing in Wellington, so I mostly mountain biked. After 5 years moved back to Canada, "settled" in Regina and got back into climbing: Devils Tower is only 7 hours from Regina! Left Regina without shedding a tear, now living in Victoria and loving it. I am a stay-at-home dad to my two daughters, who I hope will be able to enjoy climbing as much as I do.
Sid Scull
Sid started climbing in Yosemite in the sixties. Since then he's climbed rocks and mountains all over North American and in a few different areas around the world. He's happiest on moderate multi-pitch trad climbs. Since moving to Penticton, he's grown to appreciate the low commitment joy of sport climbing. He's trying to prune the tic list now, but still has a few ambitions.
