Regions - Vancouver Island - South - Duncan Boulders

A new access trail has been built that avoids crossing the private property of Bird's Eye Cove Farm. To access the new trail park by the marina, hike down Genoa Bay Road and look for a flagged trail on the right. The hike may be longer, but it will alleviate the issues with the current land owner.

The area has an amazing array on sandstone boulders. The warm up boulder, when you first arrive look like it was build to be a warm up. Big jugs along a long traverse let you warm up your arms before trying some of the harder problem. The area has lots of problems and can keep you busy for a summer or 10.

Duncan Boulders and Samsun Narrows

for Duncan Boulders

written by Eric Goodwin

The landowner who has graciously allowed access to Duncan Boulders and
Samsun Narrows from Genoa Bay Rd. is no longer allowing access across
their private land. The CASBC hopes that you respect the wishes of the
landowners, and do not trespass.

The landowners' concerns include dogs spooking their cattle (Samsun),
trash being left at the boulders (including a "fixed" gymnastics mat)
and erosion where the loop trail crosses a creek.

The owner mentioned that an alternative access to the boulders might
be possible across municipal forest land. The CASBC is investigating
alternative access to the boulders, but Samsun narrows is now
accessible only by boat.
