Regions - Thompson - Roche Lake

Roche Lake is the premier sport climbing locale for anyone coming to the Kamloops area - only 40 min outside of town with a days worth of top quality climbs from 5.8 to 5.13. West facing, it has good climbing between late May (bring bug spray) and early October. And if you don't mind the bugs this is a great family location.

From Kamloops:
40 minutes in car + 1 minute on foot

To get there:
South from Kamloops on highway 5A to Merritt for 20 minutes
Turn left (east) following signs to Roche Lake Provincial Park
At 7.4km, just after a big bend in the road, turn left onto a smaller gravel road
700m later turn left once more on to an even smaller gravel road
The climbing area is on the right after 2.5km at a small pull out

for Roche Lake

written by Peter Winter

Hey climbers, the The Kamloops Access Fund and CASBC are looking for
volunteers to participate in a maintenance day at the Roche Lake crag.
We need people to help with
• the construction of stairs on the approach trail,
• the installation of a notice board, and
• anchor maintenance.
The fun should get underway around 11 am and finish with an
after-party and prizes at Fox & Hounds Pub.

You can volunteer by adding your name to the sign-up sheet at the
Cliffside Climbing Gym or show up on the day.

Logging around Roche Lake

for Roche Lake

written by Peter Winter

There will be logging around the Roche Lake climbing area during the first three weeks of May 2012. They will be working weekdays and only until 4pm. Interfor has requested that climbers avoid the crag around these times for everyone's safety. For people wanting to climb during active logging times, there are no official restrictions to the area, just expect the noise and heavy equipment traffic associated with logging.
